About Me

Carole Trone

I help education groups develop communications strategies that advance their mission and goals. I bring the knowledge, experience, and expertise that you can trust. I am skilled in bringing a wide variety of complicated and industry-specific information to a general audience in language that inspires them to act.

Work With Me

Don’t let your hard work and accomplishments become less visible because you are lacking an effective communications strategy.

Understanding College is guided by three principles:

  • College-going must become more equitable through more transparency and more information for more students;
  • Advice and resources are grounded in reputable, data-informed sources, not sponsored content;
  • The student's best interests for college access and success are the priority

Here’s what you can expect:

A deep knowledge base of education and nonprofits.
I read widely in the sector publications of record that you also read and rely on. I bring the depth and perspective of graduate training in these fields and on-the-ground experience in K-12 and higher education settings.
Communications strategies that work across your many needs.
I can make your case for support on websites, brochures, fundraising letters, newsletters, annual reports, grant proposals, policy papers.
A transparent and organized process.
We’ll use the Smart Chart, a time-tested template that walks us through the right questions in the right order. Every project begins with this process.
Communications strategies informed by the best practices in the field.
The Internet is exploding with information. I follow industry trends in strategic communications that draw on content marketing, best practices in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and impact measurement to ensure that you’re getting that ROI (return on investment) and keeps your organization top-of-mind in your community and your field.
I want your mission to succeed because I believe in it as much as you do.
I provide these services because I needed them when I was in your role.

Here are ways that you can work with me while also supporting greater college equity:

Fair Opportunity Project (FOP) is a new, national nonprofit organization with a mission to empower more students to access and afford college. FOP distributes a comprehensive, free college admissions guide to schools in underserved communities, particularly rural areas.
